Created a map to be placed on 8′ x 6′ kiosks along the Wild and Scenic Upper Farmington River, and also inside Water Trail Map brochures. Maps were produced for the Farmington River Coordinating Committee, the organization overseeing federal funds the river receives as part of its designation.
Created a plan to look at the potential of 5+ miles of MTB trails on the over 100 acre property. Also analyzed the existing network of hiking trails to make recommendations on sustainability improvements and look for opportunities for build new trails. Project included a GIS trail grade analysis and aerial mapping.
Working with the National Park Service, Planet Zero Gravity was contracted for UAV and GIS services to help with trail planning, site measurements, and providing updated high resolution imagery that could not be obtained from Google Earth. Several orthomosaics were exported into GIS software for additional mapping and measurement taking
As part of the effort to help Newtown create an Action Plan for the renovation of Al’s Trail, Planet Zero Gravity performed a GIS grade analysis on the 11 mile long trail. It involves using elevation data to determine which segments of trail are steep and potentially unsustainable. For this project we used the grade analysis to pinpoint sections of trail that were more likely need maintenance or potentially a re-route.
This project involved an inventory of all trails and other assets at Sunrise Park in Suffield, CT. Each feature was logged with GPS, and a map created that will be used in future promotional materials for the park. Project was completed for the Suffield Parks and Recreation Department.
Partnering with the National Park Service and Groundwork Bridgeport, PZG researched the North Branch Park River corridor. The goal of this study was to make recommendations on whether a trail along the river through this urban area was feasible. Work included property analysis, identifying nearby connections, reviewing historical water flows and mapping. This study was produced for the City of Hartford. (photo credit – Groundwork Bridgeport)
A complete sustainable trail build in beautiful northwestern CT at Kalmia Sanctuary. Project included GIS analysis, flagging, corridor and tread clearing, and trail marking. Also provided a GIS trail map of the area.
NWCSA is a sportsman club that needed a sustainable trail route to bring equipment and supplies to one of their fields on the back portion of a large property. A previous attempt was made by the club to route a trail, but much of it went through wet areas and was unsustainable. PZG did a GIS analysis of the area and recommended an alternative routing that was flagged and then adopted by the club.
